A patient has been fortunate enough to take away both of these models together and try them at home and work….
The decision went in favour of the Audeo (the RIC, or the thin wire type that fits over the ear).
Here are some of the trial findings / conclusions:
The IN THE EAR VIRTOs:
- were surprisingly, worse in windy conditions
- telephone use caused whistling / feedback
- the noise when eating / chewing was unbearable
- it was felt that ‘more’ sound and noise was heard
- mid-distance noise sounds interfered with subject voices, i.e. tap running
- the programme movements (so fast in the V90 series) were less obvious (whether this was good or bad – no conclusion was reached)
- seemed to be ‘more precise’ in their detection of changing environments
- family and friends agreed that these were inconspicuous
- it was felt that natural noise was mixed with sharpened speech
- the Audeo model will no doubt last longer
- they are easier and quicker to repair
- they are more hygienic in the ear canal
- the housing is IP57 dust and water repellent
